THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS
DRIVERS TO WATCH
Don Schumacher Racing’s Antron Brown already has a track-record five
Wallys from zMAX Dragway, but that certainly won’t stop him from chasing more. The two-time
defending NHRA Carolina Nationals champion has ridden his zMAX Dragway success to back-to-back
NHRA Top Fuel championships, so he knows the importance of getting off to a fast start when the
10,000 horsepower dragsters fire up the engines at the Bellagio of drag strips for the fall showdown
A local favorite, Gray has rocketed to Pro Stock stardom this season, becoming the
youngest driver in any of the NHRA’s four pro series to win a coveted Wally (Vegas), and later backing it
up with his second career win (Topeka). His consistency is what will make him a contender when the
Countdown kicks off at zMAX Dragway. At the season’s midpoint, Gray sits third in the points standings,
surrounded by KB Racing drivers Greg Anderson and Jason line who have made winning at zMAX Dragway
a regular event.
Last year, Capps won five times en route to his first career NHRA Funny Car title.
This year, it took him less than half a season to reach that same total as Capps and his NAPA Funny Car
team picked up right where he left off last season. It may have taken nearly two decades for the Don
Schumacher Racing driver to get his first championship, but now that he knows what it takes to win,
count on him to be a contender when the Countdown kicks off at zMAX Dragway in September.
