Charlotte-area scouts and their parents will have the chance to cap off their summer by sleeping under the stars in the infield of Charlotte Motor Speedway after an evening of monster truck madness at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Saturday, Aug. 10.

The sleepover package provides scouts with a ticket to the Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Polar Pop, a campout in the Charlotte Motor Speedway infield, a newly designed commemorative sleepover patch and a light breakfast Sunday morning.

This year marks the seventh-consecutive camporee at the speedway and several Boy Scout troops and Cub Scout packs have made it out every year to enjoy the metal-mashing machines at the Monster Truck Bash before heading over to the infield of the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway. So far more than 70 scouts have signed up.

"The boys (young and old) of Harrisburg Cub Scout Pack 173 are excited to participate in this year's Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash and Charlotte Motor Speedway scout camporee," said Shannon Schlueter, cubmaster of Pack 173. "This will be the seventh year that we will join in on the excitement of the monster trucks and camping out in the CMS infield. This event has become somewhat of a tradition in our pack that gets our boys amped up and ready to start another adventurous scout year. I can't imagine a more unique or fun way for Cub Scouts and their friends and families to kick off a new school year."

Tickets for the sleepover package are $15 for children ages 13 and under and $27 for adults. Tickets for scouts who only want to attend the Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash are just $9 for children and $23 for adults. The deadline to register for the sleepover is Monday, Aug. 5.

The Aug. 10 Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Polar Pop will include appearances from fan favorites Equalizer, Samson, Brutus, Avenger, Stone Crusher and Hooked, along with new trucks Gunslinger, Red Solo Truck, Over Bored and Walking Tall.

The monstrous machines will compete in head-to-head elimination challenges over the region's longest outdoor obstacle course and face-off in an insane freestyle competition.

Festivities for scouts and fans begin with the Circle K Pre-Race Pit Party from 4-6 p.m., where they can meet the monster truck drivers, get autographs and have their pictures taken with the enormous racing machines. Ticket holders can stop by area Circle K stores and bring any size Polar Pop fountain drink for early admission to the Pit Party. The first 1,000 fans to enter the gates will receive a free autograph poster.

Fans can also ride in a real-life monster truck. This year, Sergeant Smash and Stone Crusher will be on hand throughout the event. Ride vouchers can be purchased in advance for just $5 by calling the ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS (3267).

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. and opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Reserved seats for the Aug. 10 Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Polar Pop are $25 in advance and $30 the week of the event for adults and $10 for children 13 and under.
