Amenities Important to First-Time Fans at zMAX Dragway
When attending a race, whether it is at a drag strip, superspeedway or dirt track, it's important to be comfortable at the facility you're visiting.
For first-time NHRA Four-Wide Nationals fan Stephen Clague, zMAX Dragway provides an environment so comfortable he will travel from Mackay, Queensland, Australia to attend the Four-Wide Nationals for the first time.
After attending drag races in Australia for the last 20 years at Palmyra Dragway in Mackay and Willowbank Raceway near Brisbane, Clague and his partner Kylie traveled to Concord, N.C., to attend the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in 2010.
When asked what his most memorable moment was at the dragway was, Clague said the exceptional performances and close racing during the weekend stuck out in his mind.
"There really is nothing like watching an event such as this live," Clague said. "It is always interesting when you attend a (race) with someone who has never seen drag racing live just to watch their reaction, particularly to the Nitro categories."
Clague said zMAX Dragway amenities are excellent and the "little details" make it a first-class facility. The little details are important to fans, first-time or long-time. One of these stuck out in Clague's mind.
"I was even able to find a gluten-free beer at the track. That really surprised me," Clague shared. "(I wasn't) surprised that there was beer available, I just did not expect to find a gluten-free beer at this type of venue.
"To me it is the little details such as this which are the hallmark of a first-class facility."
Clague also said the staff was helpful and everyone was friendly, adding to the overall experience.
Clague travels to the U.S. often and frequents Las Vegas, Nev. He hopes to make it to "The Strip" at Las Vegas Motor Speedway someday. He also hopes to bring Kylie's mother along for the trip one day, making her another first-time fan.
"Kylie's mother does not like to fly long distances, so often she gets a surprise phone call from the track, usually just as one of the Nitro categories fires up just to remind her what she could be doing," Clague shared. "Perhaps one day we will get her across to the U.S. We will keep on trying!"
The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series comes to zMAX Dragway April 13-15 for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals. Fans can purchase three tickets and receive a fourth free. Children 13 and under receive free admission with the purchase of an adult ticket.
