Week Four of Drag and Brag Features Everything From Dragsters to Station Wagons
Beautiful weather welcomed round three of Summer Drag and Brag at zMAX Dragway. More than 100 cars competed during the evening, from drag racing machines to station wagons. In the Gambler’s Race, Alex Thompson was victorious in his Chevrolet Camaro, while Chris Perry finished second in his Ford Mustang.
Drivers also competed for several awards. Larry Bell, of Salisbury, N.C., recorded the Best Elapsed Time of 8.10 seconds in his 1994 Chevrolet Camaro. The Top Speed of the night was 147 mph, set by Scott Davison, of Gastonia, N.C., in a 1998 Pontiac Firebird. Driving a 2006 Ford Mustang GT, Chris Perry, of Huntersville, N.C., laid down the Best Reaction Time of .008 seconds. Scott Dorn, of Charlotte, N.C., was the Iron Man of the night with nine passes in his 1997 Chevrolet Camaro. The Best in Show honors went to Chuck Hicks, of Hickory, N.C., for his 2008 Ford Mustang GT.
Next Wednesday, spectator gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 5 p.m. General admission is just $5 for adults, while kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
