Wallace on Bojangles' Pole Night Ticket
Production of the Rusty Wallace collectible ticket, the 27th in a series of Charlotte Motor Speedway Pole Night ducats, was limited to just 6,000. The ticket, printed in vibrant four-color on quality stock, sells for $15 in advance and will be $20 the day of the event.
This season has been designated "Rusty's Last Call," as the second-generation racer from St. Louis, Mo., concludes one of the most successful careers in NASCAR history.
Wallace roared off the rough-and-tumble short tracks of the Midwest in the mid-1980s and his hard-charging, outspoken personality helped NASCAR grow from a regional stock car circuit into a world-wide sporting power.
On the track, Wallace has 55 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series victories and the 1989 championship hardware rests in his trophy case. Included among the victories are the 1988 UAW-GM Quality 500 and the 1990 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway; and his controversial triumph in the 1989 all-star race at the 1.5-mile track ranks among the sport's greatest moments.
"Rusty is one of the best race car drivers in the history of American motorsports and, after more than 20 years, he's still a championship contender. He's almost won a couple of races this year and, like Mark Martin, I admire him for retiring while he's near the top," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. "I also greatly admire the job he has done in relating to the fans. The way he treats race fans is a great example for our young drivers.
"As Rusty winds up his career, we are honored to celebrate his accomplishments with this collectible Bojangles' Pole Night ticket."
Time trial runs during Bojangles' Pole Night on Thursday, Oct. 13, will determine the 43-car starting field for the UAW-GM Quality 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race on Saturday night, Oct. 15. The wild and crazy CRASHCars, a revolutionary new entry-level stock car division, and a giant firework extravaganza are also on the schedule.
The limited-edition Rusty Wallace Bojangles' Pole Night ticket, along with tickets for all UAW-GM Quality 500 Week events, can be ordered by calling the speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS.
