Add Monster Truck Battle to Oct. 11 LM Event
In addition to a 50-lap feature for the late model stock cars of the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series, two of the world's most popular Monster Trucks-Avenger and Equalizer-will square off in a no-holds barred, winner-take-all freestyle competition.
With former World Freestyle Champion Jim Koehler behind of the wheel of Avenger and Mike Hawkins piloting Equalizer, the duo will tackle a radical freestyle course comprised of a full-sized school bus, numerous cars, vans and a recreational vehicle. Specially constructed wheelie ramps will also allow the drivers to launch their 13-foot-tall behemoth machines up to 30 feet in the air.
"I believe this is the first time these two popular forms of motorsports entertainment have been combined to form one giant show," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. "Monster Truck fans will be amazed by the three-wheeling, side-by-side racing of the late models and the late model fans will be absolutely thrilled by the destructive force of the Monster Trucks."
Presented by Ferris Commercial Mowers, the Jani-King Southern Showdown features a full slate of racing for the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series. The event features a unique format that could result in the winner taking home $28,000.
Racing legend Scott Bloomquist won the most recent late model event at The Dirt Track, the $50,000-to-win Colossal 100 in April, and the Mooresburg, Tenn., resident is scheduled to return for the October event.
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup veteran Ken Schrader and Carolina dirt-track legends Mike Duvall and Freddy Smith are also among the more than 50 late model drivers expected to compete.
The Jani-King Southern Showdown on Wednesday night, Oct. 11, is the opening event of Bank of America 500 Week.
The four-night racing schedule also includes Bojangles' Pole Night on Thursday, Oct. 12, the Dollar General 300 NASCAR Busch Series race on Friday night, Oct. 13, and the Bank of America 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race on Saturday night, Oct. 14.
