NASCAR Legend Junior Johnson to Sign Autographs
Johnson will sign autographs and participate in a special fan event at noon on Saturday, Oct. 28. Hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway President H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, the ceremony will include the opportunity for fans to quiz Johnson about his amazing career.
Like many of stock car racing's pioneers, Johnson honed his driving skills running moonshine in the North Carolina mountains. His first NASCAR start came in the 1953 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway and he won 50 races before hanging up his helmet in 1966.
Johnson's greatest success, however, came as a car owner where he won 139 races and six championships in NASCAR's premier division. Throughout his career, Johnson was an industry leader in mechanical innovation and many of the sport's top crew chiefs and mechanics learned their trade while working under his leadership.
The Goodguys Southeastern Nationals will feature more than 3,000 pre-1972 hot rods, street rods, customs, classics, muscle cars and trucks. Radical vehicles from more than three dozen states will be on display.
The three-day event also includes a manufacturer's midway; swap meet; car corral area with vehicles for sale; a Saturday night cruise on the 1.5-mile superspeedway; and a chance to ride around the famous oval at 130-plus miles per hour in the passenger seat of a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race car.
Tickets can only be purchased at the gate on event days. Adult tickets are $15 per day with seniors, ages 60 and over, admitted for $12. Tickets for children ages 7 to 12 are only $6 while children 6 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Parking for the event is $5.
