Charlotte Motor Speedway Christmas Tree Lighting And Speedway Children's Charities Grant Distribution

Join us Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. as Speedway Motorsports Chairman and CEO Bruton Smith will light a one-of-a-kind Christmas tree at the main entrance to Charlotte Motor Speedway and distribute in excess of $589,000 to 66 local organizations on behalf of Speedway Children's Charities. The money will assist nonprofit charities making a direct and significant impact in the lives of children in need.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony that will include lighting a 50-foot Christmas tree; holiday music; hot chocolate and apple cider; an appearance by Lug Nut, the world's fastest mascot; and Santa arriving in a stock car.

The tree lighting will take place at the Avenue of Flags in front of Smith Tower at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The track is located at the intersection of Speedway Blvd and Highway 29.

Bruton Smith, chairman and chief executive officer of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. and founder of Speedway Children's Charities, will present checks to representatives from each of the local organizations. Charlotte Motor Speedway President and General Manager H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler; Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Tom Sadler, executive director of Speedway Children's Charities; and Scott Smith, president of Speedway Children's Charities' Charlotte chapter, will assist in distributing the funds.
