NASCAR legend Buddy Baker will be the featured "Hot Rod Hero" during the 14th annual Goodguys Southeastern Nationals Oct. 26-28 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Baker will sign autographs and participate in a special fan event at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. Hosted by Lowe's Motor Speedway President H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, the ceremony will include the opportunity for fans to quiz Baker about his amazing career.

The son of two-time NASCAR champion Buck Baker, Buddy stepped out of his father's shadow to become one of the sport's greatest drivers. He made 699 starts in what is now the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series from1959 to 1992, recording 19 victories and 311 top-10 finishes.
Baker's first triumph came 40 years ago this month in the Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway and he also recorded back-to-back Coca-Cola 600 victories at the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway in 1972 and '73.

On March 24, 1970, Baker became the first stock car driver to break the 200-mph barrier when he recorded a lap of 200.447 mph during a tire test at Talladega Superspeedway. Baker also averaged 177.602 mph en route to winning the 1980 Daytona 500, a race speed record that still stands. After hanging up his helmet, Baker became a highly respected television and radio announcer.
