Second-Generation Auto Racing Promoter Seamus Curley Joins Charlotte Motor Speedway's Events Department
Seamus Curley, the 2005 recipient of the Ken Squier Award recognizing excellence in commitment and service to the racing community, has joined Lowe's Motor Speedway's events department as manager of short-track and drag racing.
In the newly created position, Curley, 33, is responsible for development and management of the facility's short-track and drag-racing events, including the Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout Series, all races at The Dirt Track and the inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals on Sept. 11-14 at The Dragway.
Curley, a native of Essex Junction, Vt., who now lives in Charlotte, has a diverse background in short-track racing. His father, Tom Curley, is a legendary motorsports promoter and former recipient of the Racing Promotion Monthly Promoter of the Year award.
Working alongside his father from 1999 to 2007, Curley performed a variety of duties ranging from concessions manager to competition director at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., and Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y., along with the American Canadian Tour's nomadic stock-car series.
During the same period, Curley also served as vice president of Circle J Tires Inc., a Goodyear racing tire distributorship that services stock car teams and tracks throughout the Northeast.
Since moving to Charlotte in 2007, Curley has worked as a sales consultant for Tires Now, a wholesale tire distributor, and assisted the Lowe's Motor Speedway events department with operation of its short-track races.
"Seamus brings a vast amount of grassroots racing experience and is a tremendous addition to our team," said Roger Slack, the speedway's vice president of events. "He understands every aspect of presenting a short-track race and learned the art of motorsports entertainment from one of the best in the business."
Curley and his wife, Jennifer, have three sons.
