CRASHCars, the unique entry level racing machines inspired by "CARS" movie creator John Lasseter, return to Charlotte Motor Speedway tonight when Dave and Buster's at Concord Mills presents round two of the 10-race Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout.

Virtually any full- or mid-sized convertible, coupe or sedan can be transformed into a CRASHCar. Station wagons, limousines, Checker Cabs, El Caminos and even hearses are eligible while trucks and sport utility vehicles are not permitted.

Each CRASHCar must have a cartoon-style theme and feature brightly colored paint and graphics. The CRASHCar rulebook is designed to maximize safety while minimizing costs.

Among the CRASHCars expected to trade paint on the quarter-mile oval are the Nuclear Banana, Redneck Medic, Invader, Big Show, Vigilante, Rimer Rocket and Chowderhead.

Two-time CRASHCar series champion Paul Sparrow, driving the Invader entry, won the division's final Summer Shootout appearance last year and the Gastonia, N.C., racer is always a threat to "invade" victory lane.

In addition to the CRASHCar race, the 15th annual Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout, which runs each Tuesday night through Aug. 12, features three classes of Bandolero racing, four divisions of Legends Cars and the Thunder Cars.

Admission is just $7 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event. Parking is free.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action at 5:30 p.m.

Feature racing begins at 7:30 p.m. For information, call the speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS or visit us online!
