"NASCAR RaceDay" Stars Set for Epic School Bus Battle
A School Bus battle of epic proportions will be waged tonight as Fractured Prune presents round five of the 10-race Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Members of SPEED Channel's "NASCAR RaceDay" crew, including Jimmy Spencer, Kenny Wallace, John Roberts, Wendy Venturini and Rutledge Wood, are among those scheduled to wheel the behemoth creations in a winner-take-all slobberknocker that is sure to leave metal mangled and hearts broken.
On paper, Spencer appears to have a considerable advantage over his broadcasting colleagues. In addition to the two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories that highlight his résumé, the Berwick, Pa., native scored a dramatic win in last year's "NASCAR RaceDay" School Bus Challenge.
After being sent to the rear of the eight-bus field for missing the drivers' meeting, Spencer had the fans on their feet as he used a breath-taking, four-wide pass around the outside on lap two to take the lead. Once in front, Spencer never looked back as fourth-generation driver Austin Petty and Venturini chased him under the checkered flag.
A full slate of Legends Car, Bandolero and Thunder Car racing is also on tap. The Legends Cars and Bandoleros battle on the frontstretch quarter-mile oval while the Thunder Cars race on the 1.5-mile superspeedway.
Adult admission is just $7 while children 6 to 12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action at 5:15 p.m. Feature racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
