Six Cabarrus Co. Elementary School Principals to Race Buses
Six Cabarrus County Elementary School Principals to Race Buses During Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout Series Finale
CONCORD, N.C. (Aug. 1, 2008) - School doesn't start until Aug. 25, but six Cabarrus County elementary principals will hit the pavement for an early school bus "test drive" on Tuesday night, Aug. 12.
Parents have no need to worry, however, as these buses won't be carrying children and the principals won't be following the traditional routes to their schools. Instead, they will race specially prepared school buses around Charlotte Motor Speedway's frontstretch quarter-mile oval during the Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout.
The six elementary school principals scheduled to trade paint in the season-ending School Bus Slobberknocker are:
. Janet Smith of Weddington Hills Elementary
. Phil Hull of Cox Mill Elementary
. Chuck Borders of Pitts School Road Elementary
. Corey Cochran of Mount Pleasant Elementary
. Kristi Williford of Bethel Elementary
. Greg Liddle of Carl A. Furr Elementary
Presented by Stock Car Steel and Aluminum, championship night of the Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout will also see champions crowned in each of the eight divisions of Legends Car, Bandolero and Thunder Car racing.
Twenty race fans will also have the opportunity to claim a coveted title as part of the Quaker Steak & Lube Chicken Dance Showdown. The last two weekly Chicken Dance winners will be determined and the 20 finalists will then square off for the Chicken Dance championship.
Summer Shootout admission is just $7 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event.
Parking is free.
Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action at 5:15 p.m.
Feature racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
