A new generation of racers will hit the track at Lowe¿s Motor Speedway Tuesday night during round five of the 10-week Summer Shootout Series as more than a dozen youngsters participate in the inaugural Kids¿ Power Wheels Championship.

Reaching speeds of nearly 5 mph, children from 1 to 11 years of age are eligible to race their Power Wheels by Fisher Price machines around a special course on the frontstretch of the speedway¿s quarter-mile oval.

Power Wheels is a brand of battery-operated ride-on vehicles designed for use on sidewalks, grass and hard surfaces. Dozens of models are available, including Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki Ninja motorcycles, a Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck and the extremely popular Jeep Wrangler.

There is no entry fee for the Kids¿ Power Wheels Championship, but all competitors and their families must have an event ticket. Participants must be pre-entered to be eligible for competition. Entry forms can be obtained by contacting the Lowe¿s Motor Speedway Events Department at (704) 455-3205.

In addition to the Kids¿ Power Wheels Championship, a full slate of Legends Car, Bandolero and Thunder Roadster racing is on tap with more than 170 race cars expected to jam the pit area.

Admission is just $5 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 with kids under 6 free. Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event. Parking is free. Contact the speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS for information or to purchase tickets.
