There will be fireworks on and off the race track both Monday and Tuesday nights as Charlotte Motor Speedway hosts back-to-back rounds of the Summer Shootout Series.

For the first time in the 13-year history of the family oriented racing series, more than 200 competitors will battle on consecutive evenings with fireworks lighting up the sky following each racing program.

"The Fourth of July falling on a Tuesday presents a unique opportunity," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. "Our Summer Shootout fireworks are always extremely popular and attract families from throughout the region. This year, we are able to give them a double dose."

CRASHCars, the wild-and-wacky division that features cartoon-themed race cars, will join the traditional slate of Legends Cars, Bandoleros and Thunder Roadsters Monday night as Metrolina Greenhouses presents round four of the 10-race series.

Tuesday night's card, sponsored by Circle K, marks the series' half-way point and features the return of School Bus racing. Fan favorite and School Bus racing aficionado Dirty Dan has vowed to get revenge for his opening night loss to Boz the Bumper Basher. Lug Nut, the World's Fastest Mascot, is also seeking redemption after mechanical problems left him mired deep in the pack in the first of three Summer Shootout School Bus races.

Summer Shootout admission is just $5 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event. Parking is free.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. each night with feature racing slated for 7:30 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled to light up the sky at approximately 10:30. For information, call the speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS.
