Wild-and-Wacky School Bus Racing Returns For Round Eight of the Summer Shootout Series
Fans attending round eight of the Summer Shootout Series tomorrow at Charlotte Motor Speedway can expect to see local firefighters and policemen battle on-track when school bus racing featuring "Guns and Hoses" joins the traditional slate of Legends Car and Bandolero action.
Measuring 30 feet long, over nine feet tall and tipping the scales at nearly 13 tons each, the weight of a single school bus is equivalent to the total weight of 24 Legends Cars.
These enormous racing buses will battle side-by-side and bumper-to-bumper on the tight quarter-mile oval, often entering the turns three wide. These six-tire machines are some of the most unique vehicles to compete on Charlotte Motor Speedway's pavement.
The 10-week Summer Shootout Series runs each Tuesday night through Aug. 11.
Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event. Parking is free. Admission is just $7 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free.
Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with heat racing at 5:25 p.m. Feature action begins at 7:30 p.m.
