With the 10 Greatest Days in Racing upon us, The Dirt Track at Charlotte is getting ready for its first event of the season, the Circle K NOS Energy Outlaw Showdown on Friday, May 24. A familiar face is making a comeback to the event with a new owner and a new team. Kasey Kahne Racing's (KKR) No. 9 Great Clips sprint car will be piloted by Daryn Pittman for the first time at the lightning-fast, four-tenths-mile clay oval.

The 34-year-old Oklahoma native is running his first full World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series season with KKR this year, and so far he has been at the top of his game with four wins under his belt and is currently leading the point standings.

"It's still so early in the year that we don't really pay attention to points right now," said Pittman, regarding his mindset going into upcoming races. "We just want to win races."

Pittman grew up in a racing family and quickly followed in his older brother's footsteps to race quarter-midgets. From there, he quit all other sports in high school to focus on a career in racing. He worked his way up from quarter-midgets to Micro-Sprints and 360 Sprint Cars until he landed a ride in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in 1999.

Just like everyone else, Pittman found out about the vacancy in Kahne's No. 9 and contacted him about it a few days later to see if his name was in contention for the open seat. Kahne said that he was being considered and he would get a call about it sometime within the next week.

"I left it alone and sure enough he called me the next week and offered me the job," Pittman said. "It was a phone call I was obviously very excited to take for sure."

With previous success back in October of 2002, Pittman is excited to return to The Dirt Track in May to try his hand in the Circle K NOS Energy Outlaw Showdown, a race that he has had to miss the past few years. However, with his success this year, Pittman brings his newfound confidence with him to KKR's hometown track, looking for a first-time May win at The Dirt Track.

"It's not that it pays better or not that it's any different of a race, but it's more of an event," says Pittman about racing during the 10 Greatest Days of Racing at The Dirt Track. "Those are always the ones that are the most fun to be a part of."

More than 10 years have passed since his 2002 win and Pittman has grown not only into a more mature driver, but in confidence as well. It's a track that Pittman has run well at in the past, and with KKR and the success he is having so far this year, look for him to be in contention at the end.
