Despain to Host Inaugural Legends Million from Charlotte Motor Speedway
SPEED™ BROADCAST TEAM – JOY, McREYNOLDS, PARSONS IN THE BOOTH; YOCUM, SNIDER IN THE PITS
Veteran motor sports broadcaster Dave Despain, whose popular Sunday night show, Wind Tunnel, airs milestone episode No. 500 in November, will host SPEED’s live and exclusive three-hour coverage of the inaugural Legends Million from Charlotte Motor Speedway on July 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
More than 300 drivers from 35 states and two foreign countries have registered for the one-of-a-kind grassroots Legends Cars race featuring a total purse of $1 million. The A-Feature winner is guaranteed to take home an unprecedented $250,000, while the final spot in the feature is assured $10,000.
“This is going to be a great event … it’s a very cool way to celebrate grassroots racing with a big-event feel,” said SPEED President Hunter Nickell, who served as an amateur crew chief for his son Pete’s Legend Car efforts from 2002-04. “We’re going to have a lot of fun with this.”
Competitors who register for the Legends Million must register in one of three divisions: Young Lions/Semi-Pro, Masters or The Legends Million, which is open to all drivers.
Each division will run heat races and an A-Main race, with the Legends Million A-Feature serving as the grand finale of the three-day event.
Mike Joy, Larry McReynolds and Phil Parsons will call the race for SPEED with Matt Yocum and Marty Snider working the pits.
