Race fans know there is nothing like witnessing the 10 greatest days of racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and a few hardcore fans are coming all the way from Australia to take their May racing experience to the ultimate level.

Glenn Mitchell will travel from his home in Thirlmere, Australia with two friends to witness NASCAR’s best in action at Charlotte Motor Speedway. On their trek from Australia to the speedway, the lifelong motorsports enthusiasts will fly more than 25 hours and cover more than 100,000 miles.

“I’ve been watching the races on TV for years,” said Mitchell. “The track seems to have awesome speeds, great camping facilities and has always been one of the items on my bucket list.”

Mitchell said he can’t wait to experience “The Greatest Place To See The Race” first-hand. During their visit, Mitchell’s group plans to visit motorsports attractions in the area including the NASCAR Hall Of Fame and some of the many NASCAR teams headquartered within a short drive from the track, and buy as much racing memorabilia they can to bring back home.

With help from Charlotte Motor Speedway’s ticket staff, Mitchell and his group have rented an RV and will get the full camping experience with stays in two of the tracks most popular campgrounds. The group will spend the first week in the Rock City campground, located just a half-mile from the main gates of the speedway, for the All-Star Race. Then they will transition to the infield for the Coca-Cola 600, where they will take in all the action front and center, with the best views of world’s largest HDTV and the ultimate tailgate atmosphere.

“We chose to camp because we are accustomed to being in the outdoors in Australia,” said Mitchell. “The social aspect of camping is so much better than staying in a hotel room.”

Charlotte Motor Speedway offers more than 6,000 affordably-priced campsites to meet any race fan’s budget.

Mitchell’s increased interest in NASCAR can be attributed the success of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Marcos Ambrose. A two-time champion of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship in Australia, Ambrose has compelled his legion of hardcore Australian race supporters to continue to follow his career stateside.

“We would not be Aussies if we didn’t support Marcos. We are coming over to see him win this one!” said Mitchell.

Be sure to look out for Mitchell and his friends flying the Australian flag high atop their RV during the All-Star and Coca-Cola 600 Race Weeks.
