Fur will fly Tuesday night, July 12, when some of the area's most popular mascots race head-to-head in Charlotte Motor Speedway's annual version of "The Fast and the Furriest" during Round Seven of the Summer Shootout Series.

In addition to a full slate of Legend Car and Bandolero racing, Mascot Mania will pit Charlotte-area mascots against each other as they compete on the frontstretch quarter-mile oval.  Lug Nut, the world's fastest mascot, looks to defend his home track as he and his competitors race in equally prepared go-karts provided by Richard Petty Driving Experience.

Mascots scheduled to join Lug Nut in the Mascot Mania race are: Sir Purr of the Carolina Panthers; Rufus Lynx of the Charlotte Bobcats; Homer of the Charlotte Knights; Norm from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; and Chubby of the Charlotte Checkers. Last year's winner, Monkey Joe of Monkey Joe's Party and Play Center, will also be competing and Lugette, Lug Nut's girlfriend, will also make a special appearance.

In anticipation of the July 22 release of Marvel Studio's "Captain America: The First Avenger," a display will be set up for fans to receive promotional giveaways including movie posters, frisbees and other gear, as well as a chance to win advance screening passes for the movie while supplies last. Children can enjoy Captain America-themed face painting.

"Captain America: The First Avenger" will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.  As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).

Tuesday, the first 1,000 kids to enter the gate will receive a free ticket to a Kannapolis Intimidators game.  Also, families can enter for a chance to win a vacation to Caribbean Resort & Villas courtesy of MyrtleBeachHotels.com.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with opening ceremonies for feature races at 7 p.m. each night.  Tickets are just $7 for adults and $3 for kids 6 to 12. Children 5 and under get in free.  For more information contact the ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS (3267) or go online to www.charlottemotorspeedway.com.
