First-time winners Steven Cantrell, Ryan Flores, Tom Pistone and Dusty Summers highlight round eight of the Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Cantrell, of Concord, N.C., claimed his first career Summer Shootout win after a late race pass in the Legend Car Pro division.

Starting in the fourth position, Cantrell took the lead on Lap 14 when Jimmy Heavlow lost control going into the second turn. After assuming the point position Cantrell held on for the remaining six laps of the 20-lap feature en route to his victory.

Justin Lloyd, of Mooresville, N.C., crossed the stripe in the second spot and Kyle Weatherman, of Wentzville, Mo., came home third.

In the Masters division, Pistone, of Statesville, N.C., captured his first Legend Car victory in a caution-free, 20-lap feature. Starting in third, Pistone claimed the lead on Lap 17, after passing Eddie Harwell on the low side going into the third turn. Harwell, of Cleveland, N.C., held on to finish second and Clay Hair, of Mt. Pleasant, N.C., finished close behind in third.

In the Pull-A-Part Semi-Pro feature, Flores, of Concord, N.C., started on the outside pole and quickly took the lead on the first lap. Though he led wire-to-wire, Flores held off a hard charging Jake Morris, of Fredericksburg, Va., in the final laps to take home his first win. Chase Catania, of El Cajon, Calif., claimed the third position.

Summers, of Boonsboro, Md., scored his first career win in the Young Lions division. After starting sixth, Summers finally moved to the front of the field with just five laps to go, passing Sean Shalvoy, of Mooresville, N.C., who held on to finish second. Sean Rayhall, of Winston, Ga., finished in third.

While all four Legend Car features were completed as scheduled, inclement weather forced officials to postpone all Bandolero racing.

Bandolero features from round eight of Summer Shootout will be completed next Tuesday, Aug. 3. The three make-up Bandolero races will begin at 5:00 p.m. with round nine racing immediately following.

In the annual battle of “The Fast and the Furriest,” Monkey Joe, of Monkey Joe’s Party and Play Center held off Tim E. Gator, of the Kannapolis Intimidators to win the annual mascot race. Norm the Niner, of UNC Charlotte, held on to finish third.

The 17th annual Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series continues Tuesday night, Aug. 3, with the return of wild-and-wacky school bus racing. These 13-ton behemoths enormous will once again battle side-by-side and bumper-to-bumper on the tight quarter-mile oval.

In addition to the school bus race, a full slate of Legend Car and Bandolero action is scheduled. Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m.

Adult tickets are just $7 with children ages 6 to 12 admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. For more information or tickets to the Summer Shootout Series contact the ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS (3267) or visit
