The 35th annual Sonic Automotive Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Speedway Children's Charities gala presented by The NRA Teach Freedom Foundation will truely be a true night to remember. Four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon will be honored, on Wednesday, May 20, for his legendary career and tireless philanthropic efforts on behalf of children.

The Ritz-Carlton in uptown Charlotte, North Carolina will accommodate the annual black-tie fundraising event, which will be hosted by NBC Sports anchor Krista Voda. The Gala will be an unforgettable evening of silent and live auctions, food and good company, in addition to excellent entertainment provided by The Avett Brothers, founded by Seth and Scott Avett from Concord, North Carolina. The festivities are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

"I am extremely proud to be honored at this gala," said Gordon. "Speedway Children's Charities has done so much great work over the years, and Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation has partnered with them many times to impact children battling cancer and children in need.

"I really appreciate their recognition at this event, and I look forward to working with them in the years to come."

The Speedway Children's Charities Gala is among the top fundraising events in the area, with proceeds going to the grant program of Speedway Children's Charities Charlotte Chapter.

"Jeff is a true champion, and has done tremendous work for children through the Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation and the Jeff Gordon Children's Hospital. He's also supported Speedway Children's Charities for several years," said Marcus Smith, president of Speedway Children's Charities. "To have Jeff and The Avett Brothers be a part of this year's gala will make for an unforgettable evening as we raise funds for local children in need."

The evening is attended by NASCAR drivers, industry executives and sports personalities and offers the opportunity to help Charlotte-area children by bidding on many unique items at the silent and live auctions. Some items include, a guitar signed by legendary rock group ZZ Top, a Jeff Gordon autographed print, a cooking class for two at Johnson and Wales, a Las Vegas vacation package that includes a two night stay at Delano Resort and four VIP passes to Day Light Beach Club and much more.

Speedway Children's Charities is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Bruton Smith in 1982. Since then, it has raised over $42 million for other worthy non-profit organizations across the United States, more than $10 million of which has directly benefitted the Charlotte region to enhance the quality of life for children.
