Fans will get “mow for their money” Tuesday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway as lawn mower racers are set to take over the frontstrech quarter-mile oval during Round Five of the 19th annual Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series.

In addition to the full program of Legend Car and Bandolero racing, nine of the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association’s (USLMRA) finest will do battle on their mowing machines at speeds reaching more than 50 mph.

“We’ve been to Charlotte Motor Speedway before, about 12 years ago, and it was awesome,” said President and Founder of USLMRA, Bruce Kaufman, known as “Mr. Mow It All.”

“Having these lawn mower racers racing at Charlotte, the crowd is going to love it and our racers are going to love it. It is just a crowning achievement for us. It is very exciting; it’s awesome for us!”

Racers set to compete Tuesday include Wally “Iron Man” Bender, Jason “Racin’ Jason” Brown, Pete “Rocket Man Junior” Sullivan, Lou Filos and his daughters Dawn and Lauren Filos, Keith Beacom, Scott Beacom and Kevin Ferguson.

The USLMRA was formed in 1992 and is the nation’s oldest and largest National Lawn Mower Racing Sanctioning Body with more than 700 racers. Racers compete for trophies, points and bragging rights, never for purse money.

Tuesday is also 70s and 80s night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Fans are encouraged to dress in their favorite gear from those decades and have a chance to win a Charlotte Motor Speedway prize package, including two tickets to the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals on Friday, Sept. 14 at zMAX Dragway and $10 in Jack Cash from Jack in the Box.

The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a free Frisbee courtesy of title sponsor, Jack in the Box. Plus, kids can have fun in the POWERADE Play Zone, featuring bounce houses, interactive games, face painting and more.

Fans can enter to win a pair of tickets to NOS Energy Mayhem @ the MAX presented by Kooks Custom Headers, JE Pistons and Roush Yates Performance Parts on July 21 at zMAX Dragway. They can also register at the U.S. Legend Cars International booth to win a Legend Car driving school session.

Tickets for the Summer Shootout Series are $7 for adults and free for kids 13 and under.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action starting at 5:10 p.m. Opening ceremonies are at 7:00 p.m. and feature races are scheduled to conclude by approximately 10 p.m.
