Hemric Wins Sixth Race in a Row During Action-Packed Round Seven of the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series
The action was as hot on the track as the temperatures were off the track at Round Seven of the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series. Daniel Hemric won his sixth Summer Shootout Series race in a row. Alex Kennedy, of the Carmel Baptist Church, won the Faster Pastor school bus slobberknocker, while Mark Ledford won the USLMRA lawn mower race, and Kynzer Flynn, of Concord, N.C., won the Little Luggies 600 Power Wheels race.
In the Faster Pastor school bus slobberknocker, Matt Landrum, of The Line Church, led the field to the green, but it quickly turned into a three-way battle between Landrum, Don Newman of Memorial United Methodist, and Kennedy. As they rounded Turn 1, Newman hooked Landrum, drawing the caution. With the field reset, Kennedy took the lead and went on to score the victory over the charging World's Fastest Mascot, Lug Nut.
Kennedy took home the title of fastest man-of-the-cloth over Lug Nut, Billy Mauldin of Motor Racing Outreach, Charlotte Motor Speedway's Kyle Edmiston, Newman, and Landrum.
Mark Ledford, of York, S.C., mow-tored around the quarter-mile for the win in the United States Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) exhibition race. The lead was never guaranteed as the racers really gave this exhibition their all. Ledford stole the win in the last seconds of the race after a three-wide run on the frontstretch.
Kynzer Flynn, of Concord, N.C., and his red Jeep pulled away from 28 other Power Wheels to take the win in the Little Luggies 600.
"Hotshoe" Hemric started the Legend Car Pro feature in fifth position, but worked his way to the front in a race marred by four caution periods to take his sixth win in seven Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series races, and his second of the evening, after winning the Round Six make-up feature.
Kason Plott took the green flag in the point position, and led through the first caution on lap 1, but lost the lead to Tyler Green after a caution on lap 5. On lap 12, the race slowed for an incident involving Reid Wilson, and again on lap 15 for Gregory Lang, who spun in Turn 2.
Green remained in control of the race until lap 17, when Hemric reached the front. He held the lead through the remaining laps, while Green finished second, Evan Swilling third, Justin Swilling fourth and Joey Padgett fifth.
After a late caution and an all-out battle, John Holleman scored his third win of the season and second of the night in the Bandolero Outlaw division. Ashley Caldwell led the field to the green flag but was overtaken by Austin Green after the first lap. The first few laps saw close side-by-side racing throughout the entire field until a three-car pileup on lap 5. On the restart Green retook the lead and pulled away from the field. In a race that looked to be within Green's reach, a late-race caution tightened the pack and diminished his lead. This gave Holleman one more chance at Green and in the end, the win.
In a race that saw three total cautions over 16 laps, Holleman claimed the victory over Green. Ashton Winger came in third, Jensen Jorgensen in fourth, and Chase Purdy rounded out the top five.
Other winners included Jay Coen, of Dacula, Ga. in the Legend Car Semi-Pro division; William Byron, of Charlotte, N.C., in the Legend Car Young Lions division, pending review of the finish; John Sossomon of Concord, N.C. in the Security Force Legend Car Masters division; Zachary Dabbs, of Mooresville, N.C. in the Bandolero Bandits; and William Robusto, of Fort Mill, S.C., in the Beginner Bandits.
Cason Werner of Iron Station, N.C., won the postponed Round Six Bandolero Bandit feature, while Holleman won the postponed Bandolero Outlaw feature, Hemric won the postponed Legend Car Pro division feature; Joe Ryan Osborne, of Kannapolis, N.C., won the postponed Legend Car Semi-Pro feature; Mark Green, of Owensboro, Ky., won the postponed Security Force Legend Car Masters division.
