Lug Nut Helps Charlotte Motor Speedway Jump Into the Holidays at the Inaugural Eggnog Jog 5K Kickoff to Speedway Christmas
The world's fastest mascot, Lug Nut, soared through a hoop of Christmas lights and crashed into a giant pile of presents to kick off the inaugural Eggnog Jog 5K and open the month-long Speedway Christmas show at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday.
The lights shined brightly and Santa costumes were everywhere as more than 1,500 runners got a sneak peek at the more than 3 million lights and 800 displays along the 3.1-mile course, which winds through the infield of the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway.
"The kids loved seeing all the lights, getting a picture with Santa and then running around the track," said Jen Sercy, of Concord. "When we came through the tunnel, they just couldn't believe it. It was hard not to be filled with holiday cheer."
After the run, participants were treated to a concert by Ace and TJ's Charity Case band. In line with the season of giving, all proceeds from the Charity Case performance benefit Ace and TJ's Grin Kids. A portion of the proceeds from the Eggnog Jog 5K will support Speedway Children's Charities.
The jog kicked off more than a month of holiday fun at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The drive-through Speedway Christmas show opens Saturday, Nov. 23 and will be open nightly through Dec. 30 from 6-10 p.m., except Christmas Day. Every Thursday through Sunday night, fans will also enjoy an enchanted Christmas Village with a petting zoo, Bethlehem Village, photos with Santa and more. In addition, guests can watch holiday classics like "A Christmas Story," "Polar Express" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" every Friday and Saturday night beginning Nov. 29.
Admission to Speedway Christmas is $15 per car on nights the village is closed and $20 per car on nights the village is open. Group rates for tour buses and corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available.
Fans can also get great deals on souvenirs for their favorite NASCAR friends and family members at the 21st Annual Souvenir and Race Ticket Blow-Out. The Black Friday event will open on Nov. 29 at 8 a.m. and will close at 4 p.m. Fans who purchase at least $50 in souvenirs or a qualifying race ticket package, or those who make a qualifying donation to Speedway Children's Charities can drive their personal vehicle around the famed 1.5-mile superspeedway.
