Deep-fried macaroni and cheese has been making its way to restaurant and fast food menus recently, but Charlotte Motor Speedway and Levy Restaurants are giving it a twist with the debut of Mac Daddy Dogs. Fans can try this new spin on a new favorite at the speedway's Food Lion AutoFair, which takes place Aug. 26-29.

The fun fair food will join other unique offerings at the Food Lion AutoFair, including the world's only collection of street legal bumper cars, a 70th anniversary exhibit of 1940 Fords and a visit from 92-year-old internet phenomenon Rachel Veitch and her 563,000-mile '64 Mercury Comet.

A Mac Daddy Dog is a hot dog encased in macaroni pasta and pimento cheese, then coated in a panko breadcrumb crust and deep fried. The new AutoFair concession item is the creation of Levy Restaurants' Emily Williams and her staff.

"Everyone is trying to out-do each other with the wackiest fried food these days," said Williams. "We think we've put a great southern twist on regular fried mac and cheese with the addition of the pimento cheese.

"When you add the hot dog in there, four of the five major food groups are represented," joked Williams. "The Mac Daddy Dogs are an all-around fun, indulgent treat that we know our AutoFair fans will love to try."

Mac Daddy Dogs will be available for $5 each at the Levy concession stand near the Time Warner Media Center in the infield.

The Food Lion AutoFair annually attracts more than 100,000 visitors. It features 50-plus car club displays; more than 10,000 vendor spaces that offer a plethora of automotive parts and memorabilia; and a collector car auction conducted by Dealer Auctions Inc. More than 1,500 collectible vehicles of all makes and models will be available for sale in the car corral that rings the 1.5-mile superspeedway.

The family-friendly event will also feature the Powerade Play Zone for kids, complete with racing-themed inflatable slides, obstacle courses, bounce houses, face painters and appearances by Lug Nut, the World's Fastest Mascot.

Hours for the Aug. 26-29 Food Lion AutoFair are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday. Ticket prices are $10 for adults; children under 12 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Parking for the event is $5.
