Matt Greci Named Charlotte Motor Speedway's 2013 Employee of the Year
Matt Greci has been named Charlotte Motor Speedway's 2013 Employee of the Year. Presented annually, the award recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty in executing his or her responsibilities.
The winner is determined by a vote of the speedway's executive committee and is selected from Employee of the Month award recipients presented throughout the previous 12 months and voted on by their peers.
A graduate of Wingate University, Greci joined the speedway's full-time staff in 2006 after working as an intern for two summers and part-time in the corporate sales department as track rental coordinator and suite coordinator. When zMAX Dragway opened in 2008, Greci was named dragway manager. In September 2011, he was promoted to his current position as Senior Manager of Events for Charlotte Motor Speedway. In his role, Greci manages The Dirt Track at Charlotte as well as pre-race shows, car shows and concerts across all three of the speedway's facilities. His duties range from booking musical talent for pre-race concerts to event day logistics across the speedway's busy calendar.
"So much of the work that Matt does behind the scenes is an integral part of creating an unforgettable fan experience," said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. "No matter what the project is, Matt always takes ownership of what needs to be done and sets out to exceed expectations. I'm proud to recognize him as the 2013 Employee of the Year."
Doug Cremer, executive director of events at the speedway, called Greci one of hardest working people he knew.
"The most impressive thing about Matt's work ethic is how much work he does that you never know about," Cremer said. "He just puts his head down and goes to work every day."
Greci said he was completely surprised he heard he was chosen as Employee of the Year.
"I definitely didn't expect it," Greci said. "Everyone here works so hard to create the best experience for fans and make this the greatest motorsports venue in the world, so it's a big honor to be recognized."
As the 2013 Employee of the Year recipient, Greci received a trip to Las Vegas for the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony, among other perks.
