Pastors to Battle it Out in School Bus Slobberknocker During Round Four of Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series
Local men of the cloth will wheel 13-ton monstrous machines Tuesday night during the annual Faster Pastor school bus race at Round Four of the 19th annual Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
In addition to a full slate of Legend Car and Bandolero racing, fans can support their local pastors when they take to the famed superspeedway’s frontstretch quarter-mile oval in a school bus slobberknocker.
Andrew Brown, pastor at Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church in Charlotte, N.C., is one of many competitors racing for the first time.
“I am looking forward to meeting the other pastors. And I want to go fast,” said Brown. “My strategy is to keep the bus on four wheels and have a good time!”
If Brown comes out on top Tuesday, he already has a victory celebration plan in place.
“I will celebrate a win with a prayer of thanksgiving and a hotdog - all the way.”
Brown is set to compete against Lonnie Clouse, from Motor Racing Outreach; Alan Wright, with Joy FM; Buddy Compton, with Mooresville-based Sons of Thunder Ministry; Brian Hancock, with Franklin Baptist Church in Salisbury; Jonathan Blankenship, with Laurel Baptist Church in Charlotte; Jeffrey Rushing, with Westford United Methodist Church in Concord; and Evan Albertyn, with Central Church of God in Charlotte.
Tuesday, the first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a free lanyard key chain courtesy of title sponsor, Jack in the Box. Plus, kids can have fun in the POWERADE Play Zone, featuring bounce houses, interactive games, face painting and more.
Fans can enter to win a pair of tickets to the Circle K Back-to-School Monster Truck Bash presented by Polar Pop, coming up Aug. 11 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. They can also register at the U.S. Legend Cars International booth to win a Legend Car driving school session.
Tickets for the Summer Shootout Series are $7 for adults and free for kids 13 and under. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action starting at 5:10 p.m. Opening ceremonies are at 7:00 p.m. and feature races are scheduled to conclude by approximately 10 p.m.
