Racing Action is Hot at the Second Round of Summer Drag & Brag
Even though temperatures rose into the 90s at the Bellagio of drag strips, grassroots drag racers from all over the area came out to make a run during round 2 of Summer Drag & Brag at zMAX Dragway. Highlighting the night was the Gambler’s Race. Colby Holder, of Kannapolis, N.C., was victorious over second place Russell Pryor, of Monroe, N.C.
The Best Reaction Time of the night was .001 seconds posted by Matthew Carson, of Concord, N.C., in his 1998 Chevrolet Camaro. Driving a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro, Darrell Holder, of Concord, N.C., held the Best Elapsed Time with a run of 9.28 seconds. Joe Silva, of Huntersville, N.C., pushed his 2007 GSX-A 1000 motorcycle to the night’s Top Speed of 144.80 mph, while with 12 runs, Ryan Helms, of Charlotte, N.C., took home the Iron Man award in his 2007 Honda. Will Witherow, of Charlotte, N.C., received the honors for Best in Show for his 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle.
Next Wednesday, spectator gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 5 p.m. General admission is just $5 for adults, while kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Racers can run their cars down the strip for a car-and-driver entry fee of just $20.
