After hearing of the devastation Hurricane Sandy wreaked on the East coast and especially throughout New Jersey and New York, officials with Speedway Children’s Charities and Feed the Children collaborated to send three truckloads of food and supplies to areas affected by the storm.

“Our thoughts and prayers have been with all of those in the Northeast affected by both Hurricane Sandy and the recent nor’easter,” said Marcus Smith, president of the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities. “Many within our racing family live in the areas affected and we hope this gift of supplies helps them through this difficult time.”

The trucks were dispatched to community aid organizations in some of the hardest hit areas, including Jamaica, N.Y., Toms River, N.J. and Paterson, N.J. where thousands of families are still without power. Each truck serves more than 400 families.

“Once again, Speedway Children’s Charities has stepped up in a time of need to provide help and hope to those affected by disasters,” said Kevin Hagan, Feed The Children President and CEO. “Their commitment to help recovery efforts of Hurricane Sandy will mean more children and families will be able to get back on their feet and back to normal life.”

The superstorm did approximately $50 billion in damage, killed at least 110 people in the United States, left countless families homeless and left more than 8 million people without power.
