Wreath-Laying Ceremony Held This Afternoon with Traveling Vietnam Wall Display at Charlotte Motor Speedway – Opening ceremonies for the American Veterans Traveling Tribute were held this afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The ceremony featured at wreath laying at 1 p.m. attended by local veterans, active military and race fans in attendance for Coca-Cola 600 weekend activities. The 4/5th-scale version of Washington, D.C.’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial is located near the souvenir trailers across Highway 29 from the main speedway entrance.
The wall lists every American casualty from the Vietnam War. The tribute will be open to the public from May 26 to May 29. Before Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 there will be a ceremony to honor Medal of Honor recipients at 9 a.m.
Coca-Cola Family Track Walk and Quarter-Mile Cookout Takes Place Friday at the Speedway – Race fans can get moving alongside Coca-Cola Racing Family drivers Denny Hamlin, Ryan Newman and Clint Bowyer and also meet NASCAR Hall of Famers Bobby Allison and Ned Jarrett during Charlotte Motor Speedway’s annual track walk on Friday morning starting at 11 a.m.
Following the track walk, race fans can enjoy activities for the entire family, including games, music, racing simulators and driver Q-and-A sessions. Also following the walk, fans can enjoy the Quarter-Mile Cookout, which features a picnic-style lunch with hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and Coca-Cola brand soft drinks. The entire day of events is free and open to all ticket and annual credential holders for the Coca-Cola 600.
“We had a tremendous response to last year’s Quarter-Mile Cookout, and our fans have been hungry for us to bring it back,” said Marcus Smith, president and general manger of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “The track walk and picnic lunch are a great way for the speedway and Coca-Cola to thank our race fans for their loyal support of the Coca-Cola 600 and to kick off race weekend.”
