    Construction continues on a 1,300-square-foot facility that will serve as the welcome center for the Fleetwood RV Camping Resort at Lowe¿s Motor Speedway. Designed by Southland Log Homes, the log structure will serve as the registration office and welcome center and will also offer laundry facilities and a general store for year-round use by campers.

    The finale of the Charlotte Outlaw Championship, the World of Outlaws sprint car event run Oct. 12 at The Dirt Track @ Lowe¿s Motor Speedway, will be televised Thursday, Dec. 26, at 11 p.m. (EST) on Speed Channel.

    Jim Duncan, who has served as Lowe¿s Motor Speedway¿s executive vice president of Sales and Marketing for 20 years, and Jane Allen, who joined the speedway staff in 1983 as an assistant to speedway President H.A. ¿Humpy¿ Wheeler and then parlayed her passion for motorsports into a successful sales career, will leave behind a motorsports marketing legacy.

    Speedway Children¿s Charities will brighten the holiday season for 74 local organizations by distributing $410,000 during its 14th annual Holiday Tree Lighting and Grant Distribution Ceremony Wednesday evening, Dec. 11, at Lowe¿s Motor Speedway.

    Power crews from as far away as Michigan are arriving at Lowe¿s Motor Speedway to assist Duke Power in repairing lines downed by Wednesday night¿s ice storm. As of Friday morning, more than 228,000 people in Charlotte were still without electricity.

    Duke Power is using parking lots S and T, located across highway 29 from Charlotte Motor Speedway, as its staging area. As crews arrive from across the country, they check-in with Duke Power officials who then dispatch them to problem sites across the area.

    A vicious winter storm struck North Carolina Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, covering Lowe¿s Motor Speedway and the surrounding area in a blanket of ice.

    Described by Duke Power officials as the worst ice storm in state history, as many as 1.5 million North Carolina residents were without power. In Charlotte alone, more than 60 roads were closed because of fallen trees or power lines, including parts of Interstate 85.

    Justin Hill of Sandy Ridge, N.C., emerged victorious as the nation's top oval track go-kart racers battled for 300 grueling laps Saturday night in the World Karting Association's Briggs & Stratton 300 on the frontstretch quarter-mile oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

    Daryn Pittman capitalized on Tyler Walker¿s misfortune to win the 30-lap finale of the Charlotte Outlaw Championship presented by BFI Saturday night at The Dirt Track @ Lowe¿s Motor Speedway.
