This weekend, when the American Drag Racing League’s [ADRL] Dragstock event rolls into zMAX Dragway, there will be many memories of the now defunct Shuffletown Dragway, which is now partially covered by Interstate 485. Thursday, gates will open at the originally scheduled time, but hot laps will be moved up one hour.

Jeff Byrd, Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway President and General Manager, passed away Sunday, Oct. 17, following a lengthy illness. He was 60.

With the checkered flag waved on the only night race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Series Championship, Bank of America North Carolina and Charlotte Market President Charles Bowman and Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) President Marcus Smith offered their thoughts on the successful completion of the Bank of America 500.

Brad Keselowski, driver of the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge, cruised to victory in the Dollar General 300 Friday night. It was his first victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and  his 11^th career Nationwide Series win. The race marked the debut of the Nationwide Series new car at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“Rocket Man,” Josh Richards has taken over the World of Outlaws Late Model Series points lead with a victory in the World of Outlaws Late Model Showdown Wednesday night, at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The infamous sinkhole that has developed in Charlotte Motor Speedway’s infield has uncovered many unusual and even historical items, from a common step ladder to the July 16, 1977, edition of The Charlotte News, which ironically contained a story about then Speedway Public Relations Director, Joe Whitlock.

Sure, Chris Rini and Chris Tuten have normal jobs, but their true passion is drag racing. Rini, a passenger on U.S. Airways Flight 1549 from New York to Charlotte, N.C., that crashed into the Hudson River, is a record-setting racer with multiple championships under his belt. South Carolina-native Tuten is a two-time drag racing champion with more than 15 years experience.

Ten years ago, Rachel Veitch drove her 1964 Mercury Comet show car 600 miles from Orlando, Fla., to the Food Lion AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Today, the sedan registers an amazing 563,000 miles, the 92-year-old has become an internet phenomenon, and both are preparing to re-visit the AutoFair, which takes place on a new date this year – Aug. 26-29.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms couldn’t put a damper on an exciting evening of racing, highlighted by a photo-finish, during round seven of the Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Daniel Hemric, Austin Leitner and Clayton Weatherman were among the night’s feature winners who were awarded double points.

Kannapolis, N.C., native Daniel Hemric won the inaugural Legends Million, the largest grassroots race in history, at Charlotte Motor Speedway, taking home an unprecedented $250,000 with the victory.

The inaugural Legends Million Weekend got underway Thursday with more than 350 cars taking to the frontstretch quarter-mile oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Doug Stevens was the night’s fastest overall qualifier during time trials, which set Friday’s heat race lineups.

Severe weather Tuesday night forced officials to postpone the majority of racing in round six of the Kangaroo Express Summer Shootout Series until next week. Only three Bandolero features were completed on Tuesday evening.

Kyle Busch piloted his No. 18 NOS Energy Toyota to his sixth win in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 14 races. After several late race cautions, Busch was able to hold off the hard-charging Brad Keselowski to capture the victory in the TECH-NET Auto Service 300 Powered by CARQUEST Auto Parts. Busch is now tied with Mark Martin for the most Nationwide Series wins at the famous 1.5-mile superspeedway.

Taking a cue from Washington, D.C., Charlotte Motor Speedway is giving race fans a stimulus package of their own with the introduction of the Race Fan Stimulus Plan for the Coca-Cola 600 on May 30.

History-makers will witness history in the making at zMAX Dragway when the gold medal-winning four-man U.S. bobsled team will serve as Honorary Grand Marshals for the inaugural NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, March 25-28.

 Fans will have the opportunity to see their favorite drivers in action at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the first time in 2010 during NASCAR Sprint Cup Series testing March 23-24. The test will be held for the new spoiler that will soon replace the rear wing on the current Sprint Cup Series car.

Grammy Award-winning rock group Creed will perform a pre-race concert presented by Native Trading Associates for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, May 22, at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The 75-minute concert begins at 3:15 p.m. in the infield between Turns 1 and 2. Admission to the concert is free with the purchase of a ticket to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race and tickets start at just $39

Thirsty race fans taking in the action at some of the most popular NASCAR racetracks can continue to enjoy an ice-cold Coca-Cola for years to come.  Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) and Coca-Cola North America (CCNA) are extending their long-term partnership through 2015, ensuring NASCAR fans who visit premier speedways in locations such as Charlotte, Atlanta and Las Vegas can open a Coke and Open Happiness as they cheer on their favorite drivers.

Charlotte Motor Speedway will partner with regional tourism bureaus and area hotel operators to secure lower room rates for race fans attending the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 22, and the Coca-Cola 600 on May 30.

One week after U.S. Legend Cars International and Charlotte Motor Speedway announced the biggest Legend Cars race ever, competitor registration is now available online for the Legends Million.

NHRA President Tom Compton, Speedway Motorsports Inc. chairman and CEO Bruton Smith and 16-time Funny Car champion John Force were on hand Thursday to announce the inaugural NHRA Four-Wide Nationals to be held March 25-28. All four lanes of zMAX Dragway's concrete will be used for the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event.

Day three of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Media Tour hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway included a lunch stop at the campus of the top team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Hendrick Motorsports.

The second day of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Media Tour hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway included sessions with two championship teams that fell on hard times in 2009, Richard Childress Racing and Roush Fenway Racing.

The first function of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Media Tour hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway was a luncheon hosted by Stewart-Haas Racing, one the surprise teams of the 2009 season.

Danny Furr has been named Charlotte Motor Speedway's 2009 Employee of the Year. Presented annually, the award recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty in executing his or her responsibilities.

Charlotte Motor Speedway is currently recruiting race fans to join the 2010 Charlotte Motor Speedway Fan Council. Speedway Children's Charities will donate in excess of $854,000 to organizations in the Charlotte region benefiting area children during tonight's annual Charlotte Motor Speedway tree lighting ceremony. Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, will join Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Tom Sadler, executive director of Speedway Children's Charities, in awarding the grants to 93 local organizations.

Fans from across the county will converge on Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday, Nov. 27, to drive their personal vehicles on the legendary 1.5-mile quad-oval. The 17th annual Souvenir and Race Ticket Blow-Out gives fans the opportunity to see the speedway from behind the wheel just like NASCAR legends Darrell Waltrip, David Pearson, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt.

Mike Jones has been named Charlotte Motor Speedway's 2009 Salesperson of the Year. Jones, a Charlotte native who now resides in Concord, earned this prestigious award after securing numerous accounts for the 2009 and 2010 race seasons.

Josh Richards took home the trophy for his eighth victory of the 2009 season in the World of Outlaws Late Model Showdown presented by Hungry-Man. Richards started from the second position and cruised to a full straightaway lead by the time the race reached the halfway mark.

Race car drivers and fans from all over the world will converge at The Dirt Track @ Charlotte Motor Speedway this week for the World of Outlaws Topless Showdown presented by Hungry-Man on Wednesday, and the World of Outlaws World Finals, Thursday through Saturday. The World Finals event brings together the World of Outlaws sprint cars and late models for three nights of on-track action to close out their seasons and crown their champions.

Due to a rockslide that occurred at mile marker 2.6 in North Carolina, near the Tennessee state line, on Oct. 25, Interstate 40 is closed from mile marker 451 in Tennessee to mile marker 20 in North Carolina. An alternate route has been outlined for those traveling to Charlotte Motor Speedway from the Tennessee area.

Kyle Busch took home the trophy for the Dollar General 300 in the No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota. Busch led 137 of 200 laps to pick up his fifth NASCAR Nationwide Series victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Jimmie Johnson waited out the mist and drizzle during Bojangles' Pole Night at Charlotte Motor Speedway to claim the pole for Saturday night's NASCAR Banking 500 only from Bank of America. His blistering lap of 192.376 mph set the record for the fastest qualifying lap ever run in the Car of Tomorrow. Johnson didn't let the shortened schedule or wet weather dampen his spirits.

Wednesday's World of Outlaws Topless Showdown presented by Hungry Man race scheduled for The Dirt Track @ Charlotte Motor Speedway has been postponed to Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Charlotte Motor Speedway officials announced today that Grammy-nominated musical artists TobyMac and MercyMe will perform a pre-race concert for the Oct. 17 NASCAR Banking 500 only from Bank of America. Fee and Robert Pierre will also be on hand to sing as part of pre-race festivities.

Heavy rain and lightning forced officials to postpone the majority of racing in round eight of the Summer Shootout Series until next week. Only the Briggs Collision Semi-Pro Legends Car feature was completed on Tuesday evening. Andrew Smith, Dennis Kiser and Ray Beebe were among the feature winners during a night of door-to-door racing in each of the six divisions.

At 63, Gary Shannon is one of the oldest drivers competing in the Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but the Legends Car Masters division driver doesn't let his age slow him down.

Fans attending opening night of the 16th annual Summer Shootout Series tonight at Charlotte Motor Speedway can expect to see wild-and-wacky on-track action when school bus racing presented by Dollar General joins the traditional slate of Legends Car and Bandolero action.

He had to wait a day to do it, but David Reutimann grabbed the checkers for the 50^th running of the Coca-Cola 600 under a rain delay in front of NASCAR's hometown crowd at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The race, originally scheduled for Sunday, was postponed until Monday after rain wiped out on-track activities Sunday night.

Mike Bliss, driver of the No. 1 Miccosukee Indian Gaming & Resort Chevrolet scored his second NASCAR Nationwide Series victory, Saturday night, in the rain shortened CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The race ended under caution after 170 laps of 200 scheduled laps were completed.

On Thursday night, Ryan Newman nabbed his eighth career pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway and his fifth in the Coca-Cola 600. His lap of 188.475 mph beat out Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon for the top starting spot. Busch will join Newman on the front row, and Gordon will start in third.

Tickets for the 50th Coca-Cola 600 are available at the LMS ticket office and select entry gates on event day. Gates open at 11a.m. with the green flag slated to fall at 5:45 p.m.

In yet another Fans First initiative, Charlotte Motor Speedway will bring a world class barbeque competition to race fans during Coca-Cola 600 Week.

Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 29 Pennzoil Chevrolet, won the Pennzoil Victory Challenge burnout competition held on the front stretch of Charlotte Motor Speedway Saturday afternoon. Harvick took home the $10,000 prize over competitors Darrell Waltrip, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon, Greg Biffle, Kyle Busch, and Kasey Kahne.
