As the first race of the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship, the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals has always played a key role in deciding season champions. Enders became the first woman in NHRA history to win in Pro Stock at Chicago, and together they became the first two women to share the winner’s circle at Seattle. The fifth and final round of NOS Energy Mayhem @ the MAX Presented by Kooks Custom Headers, JE Pistons and Roush Yates Performance Parts took place on Saturday at zMAX Dragway.

Shannon “Iceman” Jenkins has been a staple at the American Drag Racing League’s (ADRL) prestigious Dragstock race, first appearing at the event in 2005. At the ninth rendition of the race on Saturday, Jenkins delivered another trademark performance in Pro Nitrous, this time at the ADRL’s first appearance at zMAX Dragway.

This weekend, when the American Drag Racing League’s [ADRL] Dragstock event rolls into zMAX Dragway, there will be many memories of the now defunct Shuffletown Dragway, which is now partially covered by Interstate 485. Die hard drag racing fans will flood zMAX Dragway Aug. 3-4 for ADRL Dragstock IX, which will continue a decades-old tradition of eighth-mile drag racing in the Carolinas.

Fox Sports motorsports analyst Jeff Hammond has jumped with the U.S. Army's Golden Knights and flown with the Air Force Thunderbirds. An hour before the start of the May 27 Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the popular NASCAR expert will get to check off another item on his must-do list.

Seven local racers picked up wins on Saturday in round one of the NOS Energy Mayhem @ the MAX series presented by Kooks Custom Headrs, JE Pistons and Roush Yates Performance Parts at zMAX Dragway. Six classes competed in the inaugural event, including Super Pro, Pro Street, Top Eliminator, Sportsman, Motorcycle and two divisions of Junior Dragster. Top Eliminator, Sportsman and Junior Dragster compete on the eighth-mile.

The dominant start of the 2012 season continued for Funny Car racer Robert Hight as he scored his fourth win in five races as he won the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway. Spencer Massey in Top Fuel and Greg Anderson in Pro Stock also secured wins at the fifth race of 2012 in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.

A resurgent Ron Capps overcame the disappointment of not qualifying for the last NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event in Las Vegas two weeks ago to race to the qualifying lead in the Funny Car category on the first day of qualifying for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway on Friday.

Wednesday, at zMAX Dragway, PINKS All Out went green in honor of Earth Day. The popular SPEED TV series will return to the Bellagio of drag strips April 23-24. Cars that hit the track to promote eco-friendly fuels included four Toyota Camry pace cars raced by fans who won a contest on FOX Got Game, four entirely electric cars provided by Li-ion Motors Corp., and several race vehicles powered by BioWeapon Racing Fuel.

Drag racing's most well-known newbie, 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kurt Busch, will be attempting some unusual double duty on Saturday, April 24. Barring inclement weather, Busch will qualify his No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge at Talladega Superspeedway, then fly to Concord, N.C. to race his 1970 Dodge Challenger at zMAX Dragway during PINKS All Out.

Street-legal drag racing takes center stage at zMAX Dragway when the Street Racing Challenge returns for the final time in 2009 to the Bellagio of drag strips tomorrow evening. The program began earlier this year as a combined effort between zMAX Dragway officials and local law enforcement to take street racing off the streets and into a safe, legal and controlled environment.

Construction crews poured concrete long into the night Wednesday, as the four-lane, quarter-mile drag strip at zMAX Dragway @ Concord is rapidly taking shape. When the concrete trucks went home Thursday morning, 700 feet of both right-side lanes, including the burnout boxes, were complete.

After an exhaustive review of 4,365 entries in a naming contest for Charlotte Motor Speedway's new dragway, Speedway Motorsports officials have selected zMAX Dragway @ Concord as the official name for the state-of-the-art facility.

While not quite approaching 330 mph like an NHRA Top Fuel dragster, construction of The Dragway @ Charlotte Motor Speedway is progressing at a high rate of speed.
