AutoFair Gone to the Dogs...and Pigs? Hot Dog Pig Races!
This year, the Charlotte Motor Speedway AutoFair hosted by OldRide.com has gone to the dogs and pigs, as Hot Dog Pig Races take center stage in the kids playzone area during the April 3-6 automotive extravaganza.
The Hot Dog Pig Races are a one-of-a-kind style of racing which consists of pigs and dachshunds, or "wiener dogs," taking turns racing around an oval, turf-covered course to see who can cross the finish line first.
"During the show we'll have the traditional pig races for the audience to enjoy. Then when the dogs take to the track, we'll have them dress in hot dog buns for one race and then they'll race again in superhero costumes. It's definitely something the kids will get a kick out of," said David Feimster, founder of the Hot Dog Pig Races.
Kids and adults alike will be able to join in on the fun as Feimster likes to get the crowd involved when these racing critters take to the track.
"We love including the audience in the show. We choose folks out of the audience to be track officials, cheerleaders or even wave the checkered flag. This is a show people of all ages can enjoy."
There will be plenty of "hot dogs and bacon" for all as the races are scheduled for Friday, April 4, at 11:10 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 5, at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
In addition to the Hot Dog Pig Races, there is plenty for families to enjoy in the kids playzone, which is located by the Nationwide Insurance Classic Car Showcase Pavilion in the infield of the 1.5-mile superspeedway. Children can have fun in the petting zoo, play interactive games and more. Families can also go back in time and watch as contestants sing Elvis Presley's biggest hits during the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest on Friday and Saturday. The winner will go on to compete in the final round of competition in Memphis, Tenn. in August.
The Charlotte Motor Speedway AutoFair hosted by OldRide.com annually attracts more than 100,000 visitors, features nearly 50 car club displays and offers a plethora of automotive parts and memorabilia; and a collector car auction conducted by Dealer Auctions Inc. More than 1,500 collectible vehicles of all makes and models will be available for sale in the car corral that rings the 1.5-mile superspeedway.
AutoFair Tickets are $10 for adults and free for children 13 and under. A four-day pass is available for $30. The AutoFair will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
