Charlotte Motor Speedway will honor local firefighters, police officers and EMS employees with First Responders Night Tuesday during Round Eight of the 19th annual Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series.

All first responders can gain complimentary grandstand admission by showing their police, firefighter or EMS IDs to witness a full slate of Legend Car and Bandolero racing action on the speedway’s frontstretch quarter-mile oval.

In addition to Legend Car and Bandolero racing, they’ll get to root for fellow first responders in the annual “Guns n’ Hoses” school bus slobberknocker. Area firefighters, police officers and EMS employees will face off in the final school bus race of the year for the chance to bring home bragging rights for their respective departments.

Among those expected to compete include representatives from the Harrisburg Fire Department, the Albemarle Police Department and Fire Department, Cabarrus County Emergency Medical Services, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Charlotte Fire Department.

Tommy Williams, who will be representing the Harrisburg Fire Department on Tuesday, knows that there will be a rivalry brewing among police, firefighter and EMS crews and who the fans will root for in the race.

“Being a fireman, I know that every little kid has a toy fire truck,” said Williams. “So I think they’ll definitely be pulling for us in the race.”

The first 1,000 fans through the gate Tuesday night will receive a free water bottle courtesy of title sponsor, Jack in the Box. Plus, kids can have fun in the POWERADE Play Zone, featuring bounce houses, interactive games, face painting and more.

Fans can enter to win a pair of tickets to NOS Energy Test-N-Tune on Aug. 10 at zMAX Dragway. They can also register at the U.S. Legend Cars International booth to win a Legend Car driving school session.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. Tickets for the Summer Shootout Series are $7 for adults and are available in advance at the speedway ticket office or at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event. Kids 13 and under get in free.
