It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's not Superman; it's John Holleman IV, of Winston-Salem, N.C. The Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series driver has a winning tradition that sets him apart from everyone else who reaches Victory Lane at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The 16-year-old driver started racing Bandoleros at Charlotte Motor Speedway at age 10 and now drives in the Bandolero Outlaws division. Holleman takes to the track every week in his No. 4 Bandolero, sponsored by Midway Trailer Rental.

"It's a great family-fun event that they have going on out here," Holleman expressed. "I just enjoy it every time I come out here."

However, it is not just Holleman's experience at Charlotte Motor Speedway that gets him noticed at the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series. After every win, Holleman reveals a Superman shirt that he always wears underneath his fire suit. Prior to this year's season, the driver has seven wins at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"When I win, I want to do something that no one else has done or is going to do," Holleman said. "I'm going to keep doing it until it brings me bad luck."

Since starting the tradition in 2012, the shirt has only brought good luck to Holleman's racing career. The driver was the 2013 Bandolero Outlaws Winter Heat champion and the King of the Carolinas champion. At this year's Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series, Holleman has come away with two first-place finishes and two other top-five finishes.

He even experimented with the Superman shirt to see if it really brings him luck on the racetrack. The one time Holleman did not wear it, he came in 21st place, and now the driver never hits the track without his lucky charm.

Holleman and his winning record don't just make appearances at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Three years ago, Holleman started racing weekly in the Street Stock division at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., where in 2012 he became the youngest driver to win at the track. His father raced in the Street Stock division at Bowman Gray as well, which encouraged Holleman's own racing dreams.

But he's not done dreaming yet. Holleman ultimately wants to move up to the K&N East Series and further hone his racing skills. Out of that experience, he hopes to come away with more top finishes and prove his driving skills to others.

"I want to come back with strong finishes and just prove to people that I can drive," Holleman said. "That way I can continue to move up."

Holleman has gained a lot from his experience at the Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series, the most important being sportsmanship. He said that the sportsmanship he has learned at Charlotte Motor Speedway is necessary to having fun and gaining respect on the racetrack. Holleman believes this lesson will hold true in every aspect of his life and racing career.

Before taking the next step in racing, Holleman still has six races left in the Jack and the Box Summer Shootout Series, where he will attempt to come away with the Bandolero Outlaws championship. The driver has never won a division championship at the Summer Shootout Series, and he is hoping that top five finishes and a little luck can help bring the trophy home.
