Format: The better of two laps will determine a driver's official qualifying speed for the Coca-Cola 600. Starting positions 1-42 will be determined by qualifying speeds with the top 35 in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series car owner standings guaranteed a starting position. The remaining spot in the 43-car field will be filled by the most recent series champion not already in the race or the next driver in qualifying speed. The Coca-Cola 600 is not an impound race and teams will be free to make changes to their cars after qualifying.

Radio/Television: Performance Racing Network (PRN) will broadcast live qualifying coverage to its affiliate radio stations beginning at 7:00 p.m. (EDT). PRN's broadcast can also be heard on XM Satellite Radio channel 144. SPEED Channel will televise CT Communications Pole Night qualifying live. The two-hour telecast begins at 7:00 p.m. (EDT).
