CRASHCars, the new division that is revolutionizing entry-level stock car racing, will make its Hardee's Summer Shootout debut Tuesday night during round two of the 10-week series on the frontstretch quarter-mile oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In addition, Hardee's has posted a $2,500 bonus-the Bigger is Better Challenge-that will go to the driver winning the most feature races in a single division among the Legends Cars, Bandoleros and Thunder Roadsters. This award could prove to be one of the toughest in motorsports as more than 200 competitors are expected to jam the pit area each week.

Presented by Amoco Ultimate, Tuesday night's race will be the first of seven Hardee's Summer Shootout appearances for the CRASHCars.

"The Hardee's Summer Shootout has always been an evening of motorsports entertainment for the entire family, but the CRASHCars will take the fun factor to a new level," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Virtually any full- or mid-sized convertible, coupe or sedan can be transformed into a CRASHCar. Station wagons, limousines, Checker Cabs, El Caminos and even hearses are eligible while trucks and sport utility vehicles are not permitted.

Each car must have a cartoon-style theme and feature brightly colored paint and graphics. The CRASHCar rulebook is designed to maximize safety while minimizing costs.

"We then went a step further and loosened up the contact rules, allowing the good and bad characters to beat on each other," Wheeler said.

The Hardee's Summer Shootout, which runs each Tuesday night through Aug. 16, features three classes of Bandolero racing, three divisions of Legends Cars and the popular Thunder Roadsters.
