Things will literally be cooking Aug. 1-5 when The Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway hosts its second Kid's Cooking Camp.

Designed for children ages 5 and up, the camp is conducted by Matthew Beard, The Speedway Club's renowned executive chef, and covers a variety of topics from cooking and meal preparation to safety and building teams skills in the kitchen.

Campers will learn to prepare such delicacies as Dirt Cookies, Barbecue Chicken Pizza, Banana Split Cookies, Taco Pie and Chef Beard's famous Ice Cream Baked Potatoes.

Nutrition and healthy eating habits will also be covered along with basic kitchen safety. A different menu item will be prepared each of the five days, leading up to a special meal for the participants' parents on the final day.

The camp, which is limited to 12 children, costs $90 for children of Speedway Club members and $110 for guests, and includes a hat and apron for each camper. Sessions will start at 9 a.m. each day and conclude at approximately 1:30 p.m.
