Bumper-bashing CRASHCar action, wild-and-wacky School Bus racing, a car-crushing Rollover contest and the Trailer Race of Destruction are part of the motorized mayhem on tap during the inaugural CRASHCars Tournament of Thrills Saturday night, Sept. 17, at The Dirt Track @ Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"We've designed this event to be an evening of 'smashing' entertainment for the entire family," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. "It's a race, a thrill show and a demolition derby all rolled into one-and adult tickets are just $10."

The CRASHCars, an entry-level division with cars that feature cartoon-style themes, headline the program with heat races and a championship feature on the card.

Virtually any full- or mid-sized convertible, coupe or sedan can be transformed into a CRASHCar. Station wagons, limousines, Checker Cabs, El Caminos and even hearses are eligible. Each car must have a cartoon-style theme and feature brightly colored paint and graphics. The CRASHCar rulebook is designed to maximize safety while minimizing costs.

"We then went a step further and loosened up the contact rules, allowing the good and bad characters to beat on each other," Wheeler added.

Krashy the Klown, Kill O'Bite, Land Shark, Road Rage, Big Show and Redneck Medic are among the characters in the division that boasts nearly 30 entries.

The Chain Race will feature teams of two cars chained together with the lead car and driver serving as the engine and the steering while the back car and driver works the brakes. In the Trailer Race of Destruction, several campers and mobile homes will meet their demise and the Waterless Boat Race promises to make waves without a single drop of water.

Expect plenty of window-to-window action when the behemoth School Buses take to the four-tenths-mile clay oval for the School Bus Spectacular. Legendary racer Dirty Dan the Fan and Lug Nut, the world's fastest mascot, are scheduled to be among the competitors.

The CRASHCars Tournament of Thrills will run in conjunction with the Sept. 15-18 Food Lion AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The four-day event includes various makes and models from some 50 car clubs; more than 8,000 vendor spaces that offer a plethora of automotive parts and memorabilia; a collector car auction conducted by Tom Mack; and a car corral which completely circles the 1.5-mile superspeedway with cars available for sale or trade.

Reserved seats for the CRASHCars Tournament of Thrills are just $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Parking at The Dirt Track is always free. To purchase tickets, call 1-800-455-FANS or click here.
