It's not every day that Joe Saleem, a Charlotte Motor Speedway security guard, gets to enjoy a new motorsports experience.

But that will be the case Saturday night, Aug. 19, during the Circle K Monster Truck Bash at The Dirt Track @ Charlotte Motor Speedway when the veteran racer climbs behind the wheel of a CRASHCar for his first Trailer Race.

"I've been racing since I was 7 and I'll run anything with two, four or six wheels," proclaimed the 55-year-old native of Danbury, Conn. "But competing in the CRASHCar Trailer Race will certainly be a first for me.

"I watched last year's Trailer Race as a spectator and thought to myself, 'Gosh that would be a real mark on my résumé if I could run in one of these.' I didn't think much more about it but, when Bobby Wallace was kind enough to let me drive the Landshark in this year's race, I just had to do it."

Characterized by its chaotic nature, the annual Trailer Race features CRASHCars battling on the four-tenths-mile clay oval while towing a variety of campers, boats and utility trailers. The race is one of the most unusual in motorsports, literally leaving a trail of destruction in its wake, and Saleem knows he will have his work cut out for him.

"I'm excited for this, I really am," Saleem said with a big smile. "I've already got my driving suit laid out at home and I'm raring to go. I'm sure I'll have to deal with my fair share of obstacles, but I'll just have to keep my eyes as far down the track as possible, keep it on the floor, say a little prayer and just go for it."

In addition to the CRASHCar Trailer Race, eight Monster Trucks, including Avenger, Brutus, Equalizer and Eradicator, are scheduled to participate in the Aug. 19 Circle K Monster Truck Bash. The trucks will battle in a series of one-on-one elimination matches over an obstacle course and then compete in a radical freestyle competition.

The Circle K Monster Truck Bash begins with the Circle K Pre-Race Pit Party where fans can meet the Monster Truck drivers, get autographs and have their pictures taken alongside the gargantuan machines.

Fans presenting an event ticket along with an empty 16-ounce Monster Energy drink container will be admitted to the Pit Party beginning at 4 p.m. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and the Circle K Pre-Race Pit Party runs through 6:30. On-track action starts at 7:30 p.m.

If purchased in advance, reserved seats for the Circle K Monster Truck Bash are $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Adult seats are $5 more the day of the event while parking for all events at The Dirt Track is free. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-455-FANS or online.
