The Speedway Club to Host Kid's Cooking Camp
Things will literally be cooking July 30 to Aug. 3 when The Speedway Club at Lowe's Motor Speedway hosts the third annual Kid's Cooking Camp.
Designed for children ages 5 to 11, the camp is conducted by Matthew Beard, The Speedway Club's renowned executive chef. The camp covers a variety of topics from cooking and meal preparation to safety and building team skills in the kitchen.
Campers will learn to prepare such delicacies as Pizza on a Stick, Hobo Stew, Obi-Wan Kebabs, Ice Cream Baked Potato, Frozen Chocolate Mudslide Pie and Skipper's Kool-Aid Cake.
Nutrition and healthy eating habits will also be covered along with basic kitchen safety. A different menu item will be prepared each of the five days, leading up to a special lunch for the participants' parents on the final day. The lunch will be served at noon and reservations are required.
The camp, which is limited to 15 kids, costs $125 for children of Speedway Club members and $145 for guests, and includes a hat and apron for each camper. Sessions will start at 9 a.m. each day and conclude at approximately 1 p.m.
