Fur is sure to fly Tuesday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway during round six of the 10-race Summer Shootout Series as several area mascots compete in racing's version of "The Fast and the Furriest."

Lug Nut, the World's Fastest Mascot, will be looking to defend his home turf as the mascots battle in equally prepared go-karts provided by the Richard Petty Driving Experience.

Among those scheduled to join Lug Nut in the Mascot Mania Night race are: Sir Purr of the Carolina Panthers; Homer from the Charlotte Knights; Rufus of the Charlotte Bobcats; Chubby from the Charlotte Checkers; Fractured Prune from the Donut Shoppe; and Norm the Niner, representing the Charlotte 49ers.

In addition, the mascots will greet fans on the grandstand concourse prior to their race. History will also be made as the Thunder Roadsters will race on the 1.5-mile superspeedway for the first time. The sleek open-wheel machines, which were introduced in 2000, resemble the legendary Watson Roadsters that once ruled the Indianapolis 500.

While the Thunder Roadsters race on the superspeedway, the four divisions of Legends Cars and three classes of Bandoleros will continue to battle on the frontstretch quarter-mile oval. More than 200 race cars jam the pit area each week for the Summer Shootout Series which runs each Tuesday night through Aug. 7.

Summer Shootout admission is just $7 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event.

Parking is free.  Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action at 5:30 p.m. Feature racing begins at 7:30 p.m. For information, call the speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS or visit www.charlottemotorspeedway.com.
