Thomas Van Wingerden and Kyle Plott will attempt to continue their winning ways Tuesday night, July 24, when Lowe's Motor Speedway hosts round eight of the 10-race Summer Shootout Series.

Van Wingerden, 25, of Huntersville, N.C., has won five consecutive races in the series' Thunder Roadster division while Plott, 11, of Marietta, Ga., has claimed four straight victories in the Fisher-Price Bandolero Bandits division.

Van Wingerden's toughest competition in the sleek Thunder Roadsters has come from his older brother Michael, who won the first two races of the season and has finished second three times. Ironically, the Van Wingerden brothers also battled to a one-two finish in last year's Thunder Roadster title fight with Thomas taking the crown.

Things haven't been quite as easy for Plott who has fought off numerous challengers during his string of victories in the Bandolero division that features drivers ages 8 to 11. Matthew Linker and Davey Matthews have each finished second to Plott twice while Dillon Bassett, Matt Wallace and Stephen Bergh Jr. are also consistent top-five runners.

The Summer Shootout Series includes four divisions of Legends Cars, three classes of Bandoleros and the Thunder Roadsters competing on the speedway's frontstretch quarter-mile oval. More than 200 race cars jam the pit area each week for the series which runs every Tuesday night through Aug. 7.

Summer Shootout admission is just $7 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event.

Parking is free. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with preliminary action at 5:30 p.m. Feature racing begins at 7:30 p.m. For information, call the speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS.
