Shootout Championship Battles in Full Bloom
The Summer Sizzler portion of Lowe's Motor Speedway's Summer Shootout Series will be in full bloom Tuesday night when Metrolina Greenhouses presents the penultimate round of the 10-race series.
The Summer Sizzler is comprised of the series' final three races during which 10 drivers in each of the eight divisions battle for championship honors. Heading into the second Sizzler race, two of the divisions feature ties atop the points standings.
Michael and Thomas Van Wingerden each have 3,195 points in the Thunder Roadster division where the brothers have combined to win each of the eight races. Thomas has visited victory lane five times while older brother Michael is a three-time winner.
In the Bandolero Outlaws, Kendall Sellers and Christopher McKinney each have 3,190 points to lead the championship chase. McKinney claimed his second victory of the season in the most recent race and Sellers will be gunning for his fifth win Tuesday night.
The biggest championship points lead is held by 14-year-old Ryan Glenski who has a 30-point advantage over 11-year-old Clint King in the Bandolero Young Guns division. Glenski has visited victory lane five times while King won on opening night and has recorded six runner-up finishes in the last seven races.
