WORLD OF OUTLAWS WORLD FINALS FEATURES SPRINT CARS & LATE MODELS LIVE ON SPEED TV
DAVE DESPAIN TO HOST UNIQUE SHOW FEATURING DUAL BROADCASTING TEAMS CALLING THE ACTION
The World of Outlaws World Finals from The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway will be broadcast on SPEED, Saturday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m., ET/5 p.m., PT. For the first time, both the outlaw sprint cars and dirt late models will conclude their seasons with a combined event.
Dave Despain, host of both Wind Tunnel and Inside Nextel Cup on SPEED, will anchor the three-hour dirt track special. When the sprint cars run, the familiar voices of Bobby Gerould, providing play by play, and Sprint Car Hall of Fame member and color analyst Brad Doty will steer viewers through the action. Sprint Car insider Sean Buckley will be in the pits. On the late model side, Shane Andrews is slated for play by play, with SPEED regular and Speedway Illustrated Magazine Editor Dr. Dick Berggren offering color commentary. Sarah Jane Hunt will gather "behind-the-scenes" stories from the pit area.
"This will be a unique event," said SPEED coordinating producer Pete Richards. "It should be intense because we should see a very diverse audience, as there are staunch supporters for both sprint car and dirt late model racing. I think it will be an outstanding way to end the World of Outlaws season."
"The World of Outlaws World Finals is the event all dirt racing fans have been dreaming of for years. It is a spectacular way to wrap up the 2007 season," said World Racing Group President Tom Deery. "We are excited to be working with the world class facility The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway, and we are equally pleased to showcase this incredible event on SPEED."
The championship battle between veterans Donny Schatz, who will drive a Tony Stewart owned car in 2008, and Joey Saldana, in a Kasey Kahne-owned machine, will come to a conclusion. Both have been dominant during portions of the year, with Schatz currently holding a slight edge. The late model championship is up for grabs, as dirt late model superstar Steve Francis is trying to maintain his slim championship lead over Chub Frank, Clint Smith, Shane Clanton, Rick Eckert and Josh Richards, each still having at least an outside shot at the title.
"I'm very excited about this opportunity because I'm a huge fan of dirt track racing," Despain said. "On their own, both series offer great racing at the highest levels of the sport. Now, to put them together on the same night, at the same track and running together will make it an almost perfect event."
