A giant Fireworks Extravaganza will highlight round four of the Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout Series tonight as Charlotte Motor Speedway continues an Independence Day tradition that started in 1994.

The Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by the Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau, follows a full slate of Legends Car, Bandolero and Thunder Car racing.

The CRASHCar Trailer Race of Destruction, an annual highlight of the 10-week racing series, is also on the schedule. This wild and crazy race will see the CRASHCars battle while towing a variety of items, such as boats, campers and utility trailers.

The pyrotechnics are scheduled to light up the sky after the CRASHCar Trailer Race of Destruction at approximately 10:15 p.m.

The Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout features drivers from 8-year-old youngsters to Social Security recipients. NASCAR stars Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kyle Busch, David Ragan, Reed Sorenson and Joey Logano are among those who honed their skills in the series.

More than 200 cars jam the Quaker Steak & Lube Summer Shootout pit area each week as three classes of Bandoleros and four divisions of Legends Cars battle on the frontstretch quarter-mile oval. The Thunder Cars will race in a 12-lap main event on the 1.5-mile superspeedway.

Summer Shootout admission is just $7 for adults. Children 6-12 are admitted for $3 and kids under 6 are free. Tickets are available in advance at the speedway ticket office and at Gates 4 and 5 the night of the event.

Parking is free.

Spectator gates open at 4:45 p.m. with preliminary action at 5 p.m.
