NASCAR Sprint Cup series driver Ryan Newman has submitted the first entry for the Oct. 8 Armour Vienna Sausage Southern Showdown at The Dirt Track @ Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Presented by Ferris Commercial Mowers, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event kicks off Bank of America 500 Week and features a unique format that could result in the winner of the 50-lap finale taking home $30,000.

Newman, 30, of South Bend, Ind., is slated to compete as a teammate to defending World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion Steve Francis. He will drive the No. 12 late model with sponsorship from Alltel and the Ryan Newman Foundation.
