Fans from Across the Country to Drive the Track Nov. 28
More than 5,000 race fans will converge on Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday, Nov. 28 to drive their personal vehicle on the legendary track. The 16th Annual Souvenir and Race-Ticket Blow-Out Sale gives fans the opportunity to see the track just as their favorite driver does.
Race fans from all over the country are expected to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
"It has always been my husband's dream to see Charlotte Motor Speedway," said Karrie Waid of Albuquerque, N.M. "We took the huge track in our electric rental car and went as fast as that little car would go with my husband grinning from ear to ear the whole time!"
Those spending at least $50 on merchandise or 2009 race tickets, or donating $25 to Speedway Children's Charities, can enjoy this once-a-year opportunity on Friday Nov. 28.
Fans who wish to drive around the track may pick up a ride card beginning at 8 a.m. when the Souvenir and Race Ticket Blow-Out opens. For every $10 spent at the ticket office, gift shop or souvenir haulers, a sticker is placed on the ride card. Once five stickers have been affixed, the card can be redeemed for a ride voucher at the Charlotte Motor Speedway gift shop.
With the ride voucher in hand, fans will be directed to Gate 1 where they will enter the track through the Turn 4 tunnel. Cars will be guided into the infield and assembled in groups. They will then head down pit road and onto the track for three laps around the 1.5-mile quad oval behind one of the track's Toyota Camry pace cars.
A wide variety of vehicles are likely to cruise the track between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Previous events have seen everything from classic muscle cars, to modern sports cars, to mini vans, to semi-tractors take to the 1.5-mile superspeedway.
Shoppers who spend at least $50 on tickets or souvenirs, or donate
$25 to Speedway Children's Charities on Saturday and Sunday will receive a free souvenir gift and a tour of zMAX Dragway. Each tour is good for two people. The gift and tours will be redeemable at the gift shop.
